Collagen Peptides: 10g

The most abundant protein in your joints, tendons, and ligaments. Collagen peptides deliver the specific amino acids (glycine, proline, hydroxyproline) that connective tissue needs to maintain itself under daily physical stress. This is the backbone of the formula. Unlike protein powder, which supports muscle, collagen targets the connective tissue that holds your body together. 10g is the dose most consistently used in clinical joint health research.

What the research says

A 160-person randomized controlled trial found that participants taking 10g of collagen peptides daily reported significant improvements in joint comfort, reduced stiffness, and better physical function within 8 weeks compared to placebo. A separate 20-person RCT demonstrated reduced muscle soreness following exercise. Collagen peptide supplementation has been studied extensively at doses of 5–15g per day, with 10g representing the most common effective dose across the published literature. Effects on joint comfort typically become noticeable after 4–8 weeks of consistent daily use.

Glycine: 4g

An amino acid that supports sleep quality by helping lower core body temperature, one of the key signals your body uses to initiate deep sleep. Glycine also works alongside the collagen in this formula to support connective tissue maintenance. At 4g, it adds natural sweetness, which lets us keep monk fruit low and avoid the aftertaste that comes with higher sweetener doses.

What the research says

A randomized controlled trial found that 3g of glycine before bed significantly reduced the time it took participants to fall asleep, improved their subjective sleep quality ratings, and decreased next-day fatigue, without causing drowsiness or grogginess the next morning. The mechanism is well-characterized: glycine acts on NMDA receptors in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, facilitating the core body temperature drop that precedes sleep onset. Clock Out uses 4g (above the studied dose), which also strengthens the synergy with collagen for connective tissue support. Glycine has been studied at doses up to 90g/day with no reported adverse effects.

Magnesium Bisglycinate: 200mg elemental

Magnesium is directly involved in muscle contraction, relaxation, and recovery. 48% of American adults consume less magnesium than their Estimated Average Requirement, per NIH analysis of national nutrition data, which means most people doing physical work are running low on a mineral their muscles depend on. We use the bisglycinate form because it absorbs through amino acid pathways and skips the stomach issues that cheaper forms like oxide and citrate are known for. It is the most gut-friendly supplemental magnesium available.

What the research says

A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis confirmed that magnesium supplementation supported recovery from delayed-onset muscle soreness and improved recovery markers in physically active populations. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements sets the adult magnesium RDA at 310–420mg depending on age and sex. Clock Out provides 200mg elemental, meaningfully closing the intake gap for most adults while staying below the 350mg tolerable upper intake level for supplemental magnesium. The bisglycinate (chelated) form has demonstrated superior bioavailability compared to oxide forms in published comparative studies.

Tart Cherry Extract: 500mg

Tart cherry delivers a concentrated dose of anthocyanins, compounds that support the body’s natural recovery processes after sustained physical stress. It also provides natural melatonin precursors that support healthy sleep onset without next-day grogginess. For people putting their body through 8–12 hours of physical work every day, tart cherry supports the recovery process your body runs overnight.

What the research says

A randomized controlled trial of 23 resistance-trained men found that 480mg of tart cherry extract taken daily for 10 days was associated with significantly lower self-reported muscle soreness and reduced blood markers of muscle stress (creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase) compared to placebo. A broader meta-analysis of tart cherry supplementation found a moderate beneficial effect on strength recovery and a small but statistically significant effect on reducing soreness. Published research has shown that the anthocyanins in tart cherry affect similar biological pathways to common over-the-counter options, but through a dietary mechanism rather than a pharmaceutical one. The 500mg dose in Clock Out aligns with the effective range across the clinical literature.

Vitamin C: 500mg

A required cofactor for collagen synthesis. Your body physically cannot build functional connective tissue from collagen peptides without adequate vitamin C. This is a biochemical requirement. In a controlled study, vitamin C-enriched collagen doubled blood markers of collagen synthesis compared to collagen alone. Pairing 10g of collagen with 500mg of vitamin C ensures the collagen you consume becomes cartilage, tendons, and ligaments.

What the research says

Vitamin C is essential for the hydroxylation of proline and lysine residues during collagen triple helix formation. Without sufficient vitamin C, the body cannot properly assemble collagen into functional tissue. This is the underlying mechanism of scurvy, where severe vitamin C deficiency causes connective tissue to break down. The RDA is 90mg for adult men. Clock Out provides 500mg, well above the threshold needed to support collagen utilization, and far below the 2,000mg tolerable upper intake level. Vitamin C also functions as an antioxidant and supports immune function.

L-Theanine: 200mg

An amino acid found in green tea that promotes alpha brain wave activity, the brainwave pattern associated with relaxed, clear-headed focus. L-theanine is not a sedative. It takes the edge off a hard day without slowing you down. At 200mg, it is virtually tasteless in the formula.

What the research says

A randomized controlled trial found that 200mg of L-theanine taken daily for 28 days was associated with significantly decreased stress scores and improved sleep quality compared to placebo. L-theanine crosses the blood-brain barrier and supports production of GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, neurotransmitters involved in mood, relaxation, and sleep regulation. Effects are typically noticeable within 30–60 minutes. Multiple studies confirm no tolerance buildup, no withdrawal effects, and no known interactions. No cycling is required.

Supporting Ingredients

  • Sodium Citrate 1.1g Replaces sodium lost through sweat. Buffers pH for smoother mouthfeel. Combined with salt, total sodium per serving is ~520mg.
  • Salt 300mg Electrolyte replacement and flavor.
  • Citric Acid 1.5g Tartness, flavor depth, natural preservation. The primary tool for masking the brothy off-notes that collagen produces in water.
  • Sugar 3g Sweetness base. Keeps monk fruit low to avoid aftertaste. A can of Coca-Cola has 39g.
  • Monk Fruit Extract 100mg Zero-calorie sweetener. Pure extract, no erythritol. Low dose because glycine and sugar carry the sweetness.

What We Left Out

What is not in the formula matters as much as what is.

  • Ashwagandha Requires 8–12 week cycling. Contradicts our daily-use principle. Rare liver injury reports in published case studies. Banned in Denmark. We offer it separately as a companion capsule for those who want it, with cycling guidance on the label.
  • L-Glutamine Removed to keep the full 10g collagen dose intact. Splitting gram weight between two amino acids would have weakened the primary joint-support ingredient.
  • Coconut Water Powder Ineffective at the dose our earlier prototypes used. Did not meaningfully contribute to the electrolyte profile. Cut.
  • Sunflower Lecithin Caused clumping when combined with collagen in cold water. Identified as the primary mixing problem and eliminated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to take every day?

Yes. Every ingredient was chosen specifically because it is safe for daily indefinite use. No cycling required for any component. We deliberately excluded ingredients like ashwagandha that require cycling.

Can I take a double dose?

Yes. Double-dosing is safe across the board. Magnesium at 400mg elemental reaches the upper tolerable intake level but remains safe for healthy adults. One serving daily is the clinically studied dose.

Will it interact with my medications?

If you take blood-thinning medications (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel), talk to your doctor before use. Space iron supplements at least 2 hours apart. If you are pregnant, nursing, or on prescription medications, consult your healthcare provider.

Why no proprietary blend?

Proprietary blends let companies hide how little of each ingredient they actually use. We list every ingredient and every dose so you can verify you are getting what the research actually studied. If a brand will not tell you the doses, ask yourself why.

Why collagen instead of protein powder?

Different problems, different ingredients. Protein powder supports muscle growth. Collagen supports the joints, tendons, and ligaments that take the real beating during physical work. Most tradespeople do not need bigger muscles. They need their knees and shoulders to hold up.

What flavors are available?

Cherry and Blue Razz. Both available across all products.
